About Our Swim Programs

Do you have a pool at home? Or are you wondering what the right age is for your kids to start swimming lessons so they can enjoy the water at the same time and be safe? The answer depends on how old your kids are and what you mean by swimming lessons.

Here at Little Fishes, we provide different programs for your kids. Having your child in an accredited swim school means more than just having fun and bonding with your child over their accomplishments. It can turn a life-or-death situation into a life saved event because children learn how to handle dangerous situations both in and out of the water.

We are an award-winning swim school based in Western Sydney. At Little Fishes, our friendly and highly trained AUSTSWIM and CPR qualified staff to provide children with water familiarisation, water confidence and stroke technique and development as well as swim to survive programs for children aged 6 months and over. We teach children how to swim and teach them a life long skills that one day could save their life or someone else. We do this in a fun, caring, family-friendly atmosphere for both children and parents.

Education on how to be safer in and around water is at the heart of what we do. All our lessons incorporate components of water safety and an entire week is dedicated to water safety each term. During water safety fun week, participants can practise6 their survival skills, demonstrate rescues and learn about ways to be water-smart… and have lots of FUN!

While goggles are technically optional, we highly recommend them for children learning to swim, as it encourages them to put their heads underwater and helps improve their technique when learning new strokes.

Generally most lesssons are for 30min.

Swimmers should have bathers, a towel, goggles, dry clothes to change back into and a water bottle. Swim nappies are required for children age six months to three years to enter our pool. This is compulsory as it is all about the health and safety of all our customers in the pool.

We offer make-up classes. The sooner we know that you won’t be able to make a class, the better, as we will be able to slot you in somewhere else easily. However, we understand that last-minute things come up and we can still assist you in finding a make-up class. You can also take advantage of our customer portal to manage your account online 24 hours a day.

Swimming lessons should be a consistent, long term process and not something that will ‘finish’. We think it’s important that your child attends at least once a week, consistently for several years and that they work towards the goal of swimming as a lifelong skill.

Young children learn quickly, however, they are just as quick to forget! They need regular revision and practice (at least once a week) to retain skills, and to progress.

Of course, children are unique and learn at their own individual pace. They all plateau (or regress) occasionally. Continue with lessons and stay positive as your baby “cements together” their new skills.

As your child grows, swimming lessons will also develop and extend. There is no end-point to the process. You are embarking on a journey that begins with water confidence and will lead to a respect for water safety and a love of swimming that will remain for life!

Swimming lessons are a foundation to be built on, regardless of whether your child joins a squad, plays an aquatic sport like water polo or just likes hanging out at the beach on the weekend.

By high school, most children will be confident, capable swimmers that perhaps do not need regular lessons outside of what their school offers through their physical education program. We believe that if a child can swim 400 metres with good technique, without stopping or becoming exhausted, then they are a capable swimmer.

No, we are a purpose-built Learn to Swim School; we do one thing, and we do it well. We teach kids how to swim. We try not to cater to everyone – our aim is to teach children and adults the skills they need to enjoy the water and to save their lives and other people around them. We encourage our students to have a love for the water, and when they are ready we teach all four main strokes to prepare them for squad training, school swim carnivals, or just a lifetime of water enjoyment.

Little Fishes do not give credits or refunds for missed or unused lessons. If you wish to cancel you must request this in the parent portal under your child enrolment it will be marked as DROP REQUEST. Your drop request will be approved under the following conditions.

  1. No outstanding payment is owing
  2. You have given the required 4 weeks’ notice from the parent portal. Your account will be on hold until this 4-week period has expired.
  3. Credit is non-transferable to others.

Once 1 or more of these conditions are meet our staff will proceed to withdraw your child from our program and make the space available to other students on our wait list.

Absolutely – we value our customers and their loyalty to the swim school. Large families with 3 or more children will receive a 15% discount.

Although we work very hard to be consistent, we can’t always guarantee that the same instructor will be available due to sickness or other peronal related issues. Rest assured, all of our instructors are highly skilled in water safety, first aid and, most importantly, best industry practices in providing learning to swim instruction.

We do not allow children to swim if they are only wearing a disposable swim nappy, as these do not effectively contain any accidents that may occur, and are not adequate in containing leaks.

Babies and toddlers under 3 years old must wear a “Happy Nappy” swim nappy for their lessons. When you enrol your baby or toddler for lessons at Little Fishes, you will receive a Happy Nappy as part of the cost of your registration. We also sell a range of Happy Nappy swimwear at our centre so that you can update as your child grows.

Little Fishes Swim School follows the Surf Life Saving program “Swim to Survive”. Children can become quite dependent on flotation devices and as a result, they never feel safe without one. If your child was to fall into a pool, it would be almost certain that they would not be wearing a bubble or floaties. This would cause them to panic and be unable to reach the side. Little Fishes, therefore, teach children to swim without relying on flotation devices of any kind.

Let us help your child be the best they can.

Our skilled professionals are here to help you every step of the way. We are the leaders in aquatic education.
